AWARD TO MOTZ

Bowler Of The Year The Canterbury fast bowler. R. C. Motz, has been awarded the Winsor Cup for the most meritorious bowling performance of the last year. However, ’he award of the Redpath Cup (for batting) has been deferred by the NewZealand Cricket Council’s board of control until it resumes its meeting ’his morning. It was having difficulty in deciding among several candidates, notably J. R. Reid.

B. W. Sinclair, and V. Pollard. The board, before making the decision, decided the awards would be made on performances up to the present thereby including the New Zealand team's world tour. It is the first time Notz has been awarded the Winsor Cup. The winner for the last three seasons has been R. W. Blair (Wellington). Motz took 93 wickets in the course of the last New Zealand season and the world tour, at an average of 23.4. He was New Zealand’s heaviest wicket-taker on the tour and in England, alone, took more than 50 wickets. His figures for the full tour were 63 wickets at 25.2. Motz’s closest rival was F J. Cameron (Otego), who took 103 wickets at 23.3 in the period under consideration. However, in the England tests. Motz took 11 wickets to Cameron's two.
