Model For Mexican Steam Station
(New Zealand Press Association> WELLINGTON, September 2. About 1001 b of valuable information on the geothermal power project at Wairakei will leave Wellington on Sunday for Mexico.
This has been gathered over the last two months by the team of three Mexican Federal Electricity Commission technicians in their study of New Zealand's steam-generating establish-
ment for use in a similar development planned for Mexico.
The men, Messrs Jorge Guiza. Hector Alonso and Guillermo Fernandez, are certain their scheme will be closely modelled on the New Zealand example. The Mexican experts said today that the work carried out at Wairakei, including the many sound studies, would be of great help. Because the steam used in both areas for generating purposes—wet as opposed to dry as operated in the United States and Italy—the type of plant would be the same. First test wells have been down in the valley of Mexacali for a year and a half, and the second stage will be to hitch them to generators. Tied in with this will be the boring of more drill holes to give a complete picture of the extent of the field.
Then will come the major powerhouse projected for 1970.'
