Kamina Impresses In Awapuni Gallop
""The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Kamina, Pizzicato and Talavera ran best in training at Awapuni yesterday in preparation for the first day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting. B. J. Clements found Kamina hard to hold when she ran seven furlongs on the plough. Her trial left little doubt that she would go close to completing her third successive win on end in the Okehu Hack-Hurdles. Both Talavera and Pizzicato will make fresh starts in the Durie Hack Handicap. They are forward and their gallops yesterday were impressive. On the plough, Kamina, after schooling over two brush fences with Copper Fair, ran seven fur-
longs hard held to imin 38sec, the last three in 40sec. It was a fine effort and she put zest into her task. She looks sure to run well again this week. Bagush, which is preparing for events later next month, ran an easy half mile to 56 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 42 3-ssec. Chapel and Westminster ran 55 4-ssec in a similar task, the last three to 40 4-ssec.
Legatus, an impressive worker on Tuesday, ran easily today over six furlongs In Imin 23sec, the last three in 41sec. He looks ready for a bold race tomorrow. Disciple and Alaska ran together over five furlongs in Imin 6 4-ssec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. This was good work. Disciple ran well enough at Foxton to be given a chance to the Putlki Hack Handicap. Laramie, which did not do too well for a few days after Foxton, ran well over five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec, the last three in 40 4-ssec. There was nothing wrong with the way he galloped. If he continues to progress satisfactorily he will race on the second day at Wanganui. Pizzicato was impressive yesterday. She worked strongly alongside Bonny Chat over five furlongs in Imin 4 2-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Pizzicato is forward for the Durie Hack Handicap but she will meet strong opposition. So will Talavera, another to attract yesterday. She completed half a mile in 50 2-ssec, going fast early and then easing over the last three furlongs, which she ran in 38 2-ssec. She is also capable of a bold race fresh this week.
Sir Loin, after jumping two brush fences, ran well to complete six furlongs in Imin 16 3-ssec, the last three to 37 3-ssec. On this work he could have a chance In the Okehu Hack Hurdles. Te Pari Star ran from the three furlongs in 40sec and Our Pal was timed the last three of his work in 37sec.
