CONGESTION SURCHARGE

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) MANILA, September 2. The Australian and New Zealand Eastern Shipping Conference has threatened to impose a 25 per cent congestion surcharge on all cargo for Manila from November 1.
A conference spokesman said in Manila that unless a definite improvement in the “serious congestion” at the piers were achieved and maintained during the next two months, the 25 per cent congestion surcharge would apply to northbound rates from Australia and New Zealand to Manila from November 1.
The Philippines-Europe Shipping Conference only recently announced that It would also impose a 25 per cent congestion surcharge on all cargo for Manila from September 20 unless the congestion at Manila’s south harbour improved.
