Help Wanted Of Minister
The board was in a dilemma because it had no flat land, and the Railways Department, which held flat land, could help, said Mr F. W. Freeman at the Lyttelton Harbour Board meeting yesterday.
Replying to the board’s invitation to inspect the port and discuss the use of railway land, the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) wrote that it would be difficult to arrange a visit while Parliament was sitting. He had noted the invitation but it would probably be some time before he could accept. “This is not what I anticipated,” Mr Freeman said. “Surely the Minister, as a former member of this board and a Canterbury man, can be persuaded to help us out of a problem. The board received the letter.
