40 M.P.H. LIMIT

Proposal Not Favoured (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 31. A remit proposing a 40 m.p.h. speed limit in certain built-up areas was defeated at the annual conference of the Traffic Institute in Auckland today. Introduced by Mr W. G. Bugden, of Lower Hutt, the remit proposed a 40 m.p.h. limit in areas where safety measures could be met at a speed of more than 30 m.p.h. but where it would be hazardous for the area to be classed as a limited speed zone.
