Dixon’s Try Gives Kiwis 5-2 Win

OLDHAM, September 1.
The West Coast forward, J. K. Dixon, showed a touch of class to score the only try of the match when the New Zealand Rugby League team beat the present English championship leader, Oldham, 5-2, last night.
He gained his try at the crucial moment of the game, nine minutes after the start of the second half, when the scores were level, 2-2. Dixon twisted through the tight Oldham defence with dynamic bursts and finished with a 15-yard run. It was the Kiwis’ fourth victory in five matches and the third in succession. Indifferent Start
The win was all the more creditable as Oldham has not been beaten this season.
The second half produced
bright football after an indifferent start by both sides. The wing, F. R. Christian, showed exceptional speed and made a great save late in the second half after running right across the field. J. L. White, at loose forward, was in good form on cover defence and R. D. .Hammond, P. J. Schultz and R. S. J. Irvine were all dangerous on attack.
J. E. Fagan had only three attempts at goal, one kick which he landed from the sideline and two penalty shots which just went wide.
