(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAAS ALMAGELL (Switzerland), September 1.
Rescuers in danger of being crushed by rotting sections of the Allalin glacier worked through the second night to reach 91 men already buried by the mighty tongue of ice. The engineer in charge
of the dam construction site which disappeared under thousands of tons of rock and ice on Monday night said yesterday there was still some hope of finding survivors. Mr Alexandre Verry said that the campsite buildings were wooden with steel frames. “We hope some may have been strong enough to with-
stand the terrible weight of the enormous slopes of ice and give the men some protection."
Dense fog and driving rain hampered rescue efforts last night Under the Impact of the rain the glacier showed signs of splitting again and sending down another mass of lee.
