SYDNEY FAIR
Big Party From Clich. The Sydney Chamber of Commerce had organised trade contacts and meetings for the 35 members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce who were going to the £5 million Sydney International Trade Fair next month, said the Australian Trade Commissioner in the South Island (Mr M. G. B. Coultas) last evening. He was addressing the monthly meeting of the Canterbury chamber. The trade fair organisers, he said, were delighted that such a large party was coming from Christchurch.
Mr R. C. Neville said that his firm had tw’o candidates for the trip. The president (Mr A. R. Mackay) said that the time was ripe for further communications between New Zealand and Australian businessmen, after the recent New Zealand-Australia trade agreement.
Mr Mackay said that he particularly wanted to foster relationships between Canterbury businessmen and those in New South Wales and other parts of Australia. From 35 to 40 members of the Canterbury chamber were expected to make the trip to Sydney, he said. Also making the trip would be the chamber’s secretary (Mr P. L. Bush) and a newspaper reporter who was an invited guest of the chamber. Mr Mackay said that the trade fair visit was not limited to members of the chamber and any other members of the business community would be welcome to join in the chamber’s party.
