MOTORING OFFENCES

Suggested Change (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 27. An English solicitor has suggested changes in the treatment of motoring offences. Mr David Napley, of the Law Society, was addressing the third Commonwealth and Empire Law Conference on ’The Motor-car and the Law.” He suggested the substitution of a new offence of reckless driving for the offence of driving under the influence of drink. Criminal offences in relation to motoring should be limited to acts which were a conscious violation of the law.

These might be classified generically under the title “reckless driving.” Such offences would be serious, requiring severe punishment.
