TEST MEN RESTED
XV To Play Wairarapa
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) MASTERTON, Aug. 29. For perhaps the first time on the tour, the Springboks have chosen a recognisable “second fifteen” to meet Wai-rarapa-Bush on Tuesday. There are players in the side who are in the running for test caps but for the most part the men who are expected to take the field against the All Blacks in the third test at Christchurch next Saturday, have been rested. Most of the interest in Tuesday’s game will centre on the form of several forwards. P. H. Botha and J. Naude, the locks, are battling for the right to partner F. C. H. du Preez in the international and D. J. Hopwood, on the flank, will have a further chance to advance his claims for a cap.
At a press conference today, the team manager, Mr J. F. Louw, said that Hopwood could be changed with L. P. Slabber, at number eight, at the discretion of the captain, C. M. Smith.
E. Olivier, the replacement centre, will have his second game of the tour. The team is:—
C. G. Mulder; J. T. Truter, S. H. Nomis, E. Olivier, W. J. Mans; K. Oxlee, C. M. Smith (captain); L. J. Slabber; D. J. Hopwood, J. Naude, P. H. Botha, D. J. Heywood; W. H. Parker, G. F. Malan, A. W. MacDonald.
