COPIED FIVE SCORES

Girl’s Effort For Contest (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, August 29. After copying out the scores and words of five songs only two or three days before facing the judge in the Northland Competitions Society’s festival, one young competitor triumphed over her difficulties and went on to become the festival's junior vocal champion. She is Miss Carole Kesner, of Te Awamutu.

One of the society’s requirements for competitors in certain classes is that copies of music must be in the hands of the executive three weeks before the festival. This allows the official accompanist to become familiar with the score. Miss Kesner posted copies of her five songs at Te Awamutu well in time but they did not reach Whangarei. It is believed they went to Dunedin.

The society gave her a period of grace before advising her of the non-arrival of the music, but by that time Miss Kesner was almost ready to leave for Whangarei. She set to work to transcribe the songs and completed two before leaving home. She arrived in Whangarei last Saturday and spent most of Sunday finishing the other copies.
