Rice-Davies Visit Goes Before Cabinet

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 27. fhe Cabinet will probably consider on Monday the petition asking that Miss Mandy Rice-Davies not be allowed to enter New Zealand as an entertainer.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake), asked at his press conference tonight whether this would be done, said: “I would think so.”

He would not say if there would be any announcement after the Cabinet meeting. He said that was a matter for the Minister of Immigration (Mr Shand).

The promoter of Miss Rice-Davies’ New Zealand visit (Mr A. Flower, of Masterton), said tonight he challenged Mr Shand to repeat in public statements he made in Parliament today about her.

I Earlier, formal application | for an entry permit for Miss § Rice-Davies was made by Mr j J. A. Tannahill, of Wellington,

counsel for the New Zealand Promotion Agency, Ltd., sponsors of her visit.

Mr Tannahill said tonight he had applied by letter to the Minister of Immigration (Mr Shand) in view of the decision of the Parliamentary Petitions Committee today.

The committee made no recommendation on a petition by Mr W. M. Bolland, of Hamilton and 64 others that Miss Rice-Davies not be allowed to enter New Zealand as an entertainer. Mr Tannahill said so far

he had been unable to get in touch personally with Mr Shand. “We want to know where we stand,” Mr Tannahill said. ‘Miss Rice-Davies was due to leave England on September 4 and arrive in Wellington on September 8. A spokesman for the Department of Immigration said today a decision on whether Miss Rice-Davies could have a permit would have to be made by the legislative and petitions committee of the Cabine'.
