Wallabies Red Wins Table Tennis Title

With One round left to play, Wallabies Red has won the senior table tennis competition. By beating Wallabies Green in the seventeenth round and gained an unbeatable lead of 34 points to Selwyn I’s 30.

N. B. Radford (Wallabies Red) was at peak form. He beat all opponents. For Wallabies Green, R. G. Hart caused a major upset by beating the hard-hitting R. J. Scott.. J. Lelliot supprised when he beat the representative M. A. Cox. in a long, slojv contest. Selwyn I, by beating Celtic, went to second place in the competition by 12 points from its nearest rival. Avonside. V. N. Brightwell was at top form for Selwyn, winning his three singles matches and avenging his first-round losses against P. J. Iven and B. T. Edwards.

Mrs M. J. Shadbolt gave one of her best displays to win all her singles matches and thus assist J. Armstrong in securing an 8-4 win for Eagles over Dallington. Chin Sin Pin has improved markedly in the latter stages of the competition. He won three singles against Unwood to keep Avonside to a 7-5 win. Selwyn II scored a 19-2 victory over a weakened University side. N. Ng, playing his first contest in the senior grade, gave an indication of his ability when he beat R. J.
