Capless Has Form For Foxton Win
“The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. Capless is chosen for' the M. B. Bergin Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Foxton Racing Club’s spring meeting today. He is expected to have improved since he was beaten in the Islington Handicap at his last start. Capless missed work at Riccarton and it is thought that this was responsible for, his showing in the Islington Handicap there on August 14. He made ground for seventh, but this was hardly what was expected after his third to Big Bill and Three Kings at Levin on July 28. Capless will be ridden by L. K. Tinsley, who rode him at Levin. Big Bill and Bairam look the hardest for Capless to beat. Big Bill easily beat a field as big and about as strong as today’s when he won at Levin on July 28. He has not raced since then He was to have started at the Carterton meeting last week, but his trainer, B. A. V. Preston, thought the track was too heavy. Since Levin Big Bill has been working on the beach and he is thriving. Bairam’S close second to Le Plus last week was a good beginning to his open-company career. The young Carterton trainer. W. D. Wylie, has had to be patient with Bairam and his persistence seems likely to reap greater rewards than it has already.
Bairam won over nine furlongs at Foxtdn last spring.
Laud has been schooled since his failure last week at Tauherenlkau, as he was before he won at Marton on July 30. Both at Tauherenikau, where he failed, and at Marton the going was heavier than it is expected to be today. The forecast is good and the sandy Foxton track should provide good going.
