RESCUED BY POLICE

Parachutist In Creek (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 27. A leading New Zealand parachutist became tangled in his parachute when he landed in waist-deep mud in the Porirua creek today. He is Bruce Farquhar, who is rated third in the Dominion.

A fellow parachutist landed 50 yards away on dry ground. Police, wading through muddy water, used planks to free Mr Farquhar. He was surrounded by hundreds of shouting children as he emerged covered with mud. During the free fall from a plane at 7500 feet Mr Farquhar twice tried to pass a baton to his companion. Robert Benton, but failed. They fell 5500 feet before opening their parachutes. <
