VACANCIES—PROFESSIONAL AUCKLAND HOSPITAL BOARD. POST-CERTIFICATE COURSES. Some vacanciet still exist tn the following Post-Certificate Courses, and applications to participate are invited from suitably qualified members of the Nursing Profession; — (1) PREMATURE BABY AND NEONATE NURSING. NATIONAL WOMEN’S HOSPITAL. (2) ORTHOPAEDIC NURSING and PLASTIC SURGICAL NURSING, MIDDLEMORE HOSPITAL. Further details of these Courses are as follows: (1) Premature Baby and Neonate Nursing, National Women’s Hospital. Two courses are open:— (a) To commence October 18, 1965. This ts a six months’ course, and is available to General and Maternity Trained Nurses or Registered Midwives. (b) To commence January 3, 1966. This is a four months’ course, and is open to holders of General and Midwifery Certificates. The courses will consist of a series of lectures and demonstrations, and cover theoretical and clinical teaching in the care of the premature baby and neonate. ’ (2) Orthopaedic Nursing and Plastic Surgical Nursing, Mlddlemore Hospital. Both courses are of six months’ duration, and comme: ce on October 18, 1965. Applicants for the Orthopaedic Course are required to have received a minimum of six months' post-graduate experience. GENERAL: (a) At the conclusion of each Course a State Examination will be held, and a Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded to successful candidates by the Department of Health. (b) Staff Nurses’ salary and conditions will apply throughout the courses. (C) Llvlng-in accommodation is available if required.

C.l. 3476 AUCKLAND HOSPITAL BOARD SENIOR OBSTERICAL AND GYNAECOLOGICAL (NON-ROTATING) HOUSE SURGEONS OR SENIOR HOUSE OFFICERS NATIONAL WOMEN’S HOSPITAL Applications are invited from general medical practitioners of at least one year’s standing, for positions of Obstetrical and Gynaecological House Surgeons or of at least two years’ standing for positions of Senior House Officer, National Women's Hospital. The appointees will be required to commence duty on January 1, 1966, for a minimum period of Six months. These positions are recognised as residential training for the M.R.C.0.G., and New Zealand dinploma in obstetrics qualifications. . .. ~ Intending applicants should state full details of qualifications, experience, and future intentions with regard to postgraduate activities and training. ’ Married accommodation will be provided where required, and applicants, if married, with a family should state age and sex of children. The salary prescribed by the regulations for these positions is: (a) Senior house surgeon: £1475 per annum, less deduction for board and lodging. (b) Senior house office: £1635£1740 per annum (being a medical practitioner of more than two years’ standing) less deduction for board and lodging. DEPARTMENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS ANTARCTIC DIVISION ASSISTANT DIRECTOR. £4365 (actual) DUTlES—Responsible to the Director for the direction and development of the scientific research programmes of the Division and for the co-ordination of the scientific work of the organisations involved in the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions which maintain permanent stations at Macquarie Island, Wilkes and Mawson. The total professional staff responsible to the Assistant Director numbers approximately 40. The Antarctic Division tn association with a number of university departments, is currently engaged in research In the fields of upper atmosphere physics and cosmic rays, glaciology, biology and medical science in the Antarctic environments. A list of scientific papers published to date by Antarctic Division staff Is available on request. Occasional short term visits to the ANARE stations are considered necessary to maintain familiarity with the environment in which the research is carried out. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have had extensive experience in the prosecution and direction of scientific research in an appropriate field.
