Steps To Improve Fishing Industry

(New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, August 27. A step towards the establishment of good industrial relations in the New Zealand fishing industry was advocated today by Mr G. J. Murray, secretary of the Gisborne Fishermen’s Association, at the annual conference of the Federation of Commercial Fishermen.

Mr Murray said it was necessary to investigate methods of fixing prices of fish landed, ‘o ensure training for youths and to give crewhands responsibility and the incentive to operate vessels economically and efficiently. He urged that the federation ask the Fishing Industry Board to establish a committee which would make recommendations concerning the

settlement of industrial disputes and similar matters. The federation decided to ask the board to establish such a committee.
