Janeen Impresses In Awapuni Trial
“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Janeen, whose recent form suggests a winning chance in the Awahou Hack Handicap at Foxton tomorrow, impressed in her work at Awapuni yesterday. Janeen showed that her race in the New Zealand Hack Stayers' Plate a week ago had not harmed her when she strode over six furlongs. Most other Foxton candidates were let off with easy gallops. On the inside trial Janeen took Imln 19 4-ssec. the last three in 38 4-ssec. She finished on strongly. Successive placings at Awapuni, Marton and Tauherenikau point to her prospects tomorrow. Very Dry, a fit hurdles candidate, ran six furlongs in Imin 22sec, the last three in 40sec. She will get a chance to show her best tomorrow if the track is good. Disciple showed he is Improving when he shaded Lordtuckey and Flockhart over a mile In Imin 47sec, the last three furlongs in 38sec. Disciple is in the Awahou Hack Handicap at Foxton this week. On the plough, Laramie completed half a mile in 51sec. the last three furlongs In 38 2-ssec. He finished strongly in the straight. He may find the sprint journey too short for him at Foxton.
Balyn and the promising Bonny Chat ran together over half a mile in 53sec, the last three furlongs in 39sec. It was a good effort for horses of their class. Legatus, who has freshened nicely since winning at Marton, completed five furlongs in Imin Bsec, the last three in 41 3-ssec. Llansgaro, a likely improver for the Awahou Hack Handicap, ran the last four of six furlongs in 55sec, the final three in 41 l-ssec.
