NEW JAYCEE CHAPTER
Inauguration In ChCh.
The Jaycee movement provided the environment and soil in which a young man’s personality could develop, said the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) at the inaugural meeting of the South Christchurch chapter of Jaycee. The 25 prospective members present agreed to form the one hundred and thirtyseventh chapter of the movement in New Zealand. The meeting was sponsored by the Riccarton-Hornby chapter, and seven other chapters were represented. Mr Manning told the foundation members that membership of Jaycee enabled young men to improve their education through experience in activities for community development. There were opportunities within the organisation for young men to express themselves and to develop their characters. Mr B. Newburg was elected president of the new chapter. Other officers elected were: vice-president, Mr N. Duffey; treasurer, Mr C. Salisbury; secretary, Mr R. Parris; board, Messrs P. Day, B. Parker, P. Parry, B. Turner, and I. Wilson.
