APPEAL BY Y.M.C.A.
The figure of £lOOO hoped for by the Y.M.C.A. in its annual street appeal was easily reached yesterday. With 50 boxes still to be counted the figure had reached £1205 —£loso from collectors' boxes, £l3O from the stall in Cathedral square run by the Mothers' Club, and £25 from a recent stall he’d in New Brighton by the Y'smenettes Between 250 and 300 collectors. 180 of them children worked between 7.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.. and the figure was well in excess of the £750 average raised in past years. The money will go towards facilities and classes for schoolchildren. Because they are not wage-earr.ers only small fees can be charged, and last year there was i loss of £l6OO.
