Farmer Fertiliser Works Approved
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 25. The use of producer funds for the financing of fertiliser works, provided producer support as required was forthcoming, and that any such project could operate on a price basis against competing factors, was approved by the electoral committee of the Meat Board today.
In his address to the annual meeting of the committee yesterday, the chairman of the board (Sir John Ormond) commented on moves to establish additional farmer co-operative fertiliser works.
“The East Coast Farmers’ Fertiliser Company has firm proposals to extend manufacturing operations by erecting additional plants in Poverty Bay and Wairarapa,” he said. “A group of farmers in South Canterbury has formed a co-operative company with
the intention of erecting a new fertiliser works near Timaru.
“The Southland and Bay of Plenty co-operative fertiliser companies continue to make solid progress. “These are splendid private enterprise ventures and I find it difficult to understand the mental block in the minds of people who choose to discriminate between farmer co-operative private enterprise and so-called commercial private enterprise." said Sir John Ormond.
