Three S.C. Titles Won At Timaru Competitions

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 25. South Canterbury championships were won as follows at the annual competitions festival in Timaru yes terday:— Sailor’s Hornpipe, under--12: Leonne Downie (Auckland). Highland Fling, under--16: Joan Glass (Timaru). Fourteen-year-old lola Smith, of Timaru, won the aggregate “glamour” prize for most points in the under-15 street and party wear modelling sections. Valued at £5O, the prize consists of a scenic trip by courtesy of the National Airways Corporation, Mount Cook Tourist Company, Ltd., and Tourist Hotel Corporation. It includes air travel for two from the Timaru airport at Levels to Christchurch, and from there to Mount Cook, accommodation at The Hermitage, and a coach trip to Queenstown with accommodation at Eichardt’s Hotel. The winner also received £lO donated by the Hydro Grand Hotel, for the local entrant attaining highest aggregate points in her section, in which there were 17 contestants.

Cash prizes were awarded to first and second placegetters in all sections, in which 26 models took part. The judge was Miss Eva Sprott, of Christchurch, South Island women's travel consultant for Air New Zealand

Other judges were: Fancy dancing, Miss Gwen Gibbs (Palmerston North); national dancing, Mrs Joy Mcßride (Gore): vocal and instrumental, Miss Bessie Pollard (Christchurch): speech, Miss Molly Randle (Dunedin).
