EVACUATION OF SOLDIER

Illness During Exercise (NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Aug. 25. A soldier who became ill at exercises on Great Barrier Island was evacuated todav by private aircraft after a service plane had to abandon an attempt to land. All three services combined in the rescue after the soldier. Lance-Corporal A. V. Paris, of the Ist Battalion Depot, was found to have a high temperaI ture.

An Auster of the Army Reconnaissance Flight, left Whenuapai and, after encountering severe turbulence on the way to the island, was unable to land.

A Navy motor launch patrolling in the Hauraki Gulf was diverted toward the island. In the meantime arrangements were made for a Tourist Air Travel, Ltd., amphibian to pick up Corporal Paris.

He was taken to the naval hospital at Devonport. His condition later was reported Ho be satisfactory.
