HARPER AVE. CORNER

Use Of Park Suggested If a little bit of Hagley Park were taken at the junction of Fendalton road and Harper avenue, traffic could be segregated and a bad corner made safer, said Mr J. R. Maling at a meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee last night. “This corner has been looked at by the experts for oeople have got fantastic ideas for the future, but we want something sooner than that,” said Mr Maling. “The corner could be laned. though there would not be enough room for 12ft lanes, which, for some reason, the authorities want.” He then suggested that enough land could be taken from the park to give more road.

The chairman (Mr N. H. Browne) said that at a recent meeting of the Progress League, Mr H. E. Radley had made suggestions for improving the corner. He should be invited to the committee’s next meeting to give his views.

Mr Browne said he had inspected the corner on Tuesday evening. It would appear that the mid-part of the bend was too high, and that there were problems arising from too many reverse cambers.
