No Allowance For Marriage

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. When students married they occupied their own home and were not strictly entitled to continue to receive the boarding allowance, the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) told Parliament today.

He was replying to Mrs E. E. McMillan (Opp., Dunedin North). “If one of these students is unable to pursue his studies without the financial assistance afforded by the allowance, there is authority under the regulations to continue to pay an allowance,” Mr Kinsella said. “The university bursaries regulations are at present being reviewed and one of the very complicated matters being considered is the general question of boarding allowances, including the continuation of boarding allowances to students who marry during their course.”
