APARTHEID IN CARS

Legislation Not Planned (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PRETORIA, Aug. 17. Banning white women from travelling alone in cars with male African drivers ffiight make the Government “look a bit foolish,” the Minister of Justice said here today. Mr Balthazar Vorster was speaking on a resolution before the Transvaal Congress of the ruling National Party which asked the Government to impose such a ban. Mr Balthazar said the Government did not approve of white women accompanying male African drivers, but it was doubtful whether legislation would prevent the evils the resolution had in mind. He felt the matter should be left to the healthy judgment of the community.
