CYCLING Cold Conditions For Teams’ Time Trial
1 Conditions were cold for I cycling at the week-end. Amateur Events For the first time, the Canterbury centre of the Amateur j Cycling Association held a 100kilometre teams time trial. Three of each four-man team had to finish the course to qual j ify for a team placing. The winning team comprised T. Taback (Avon), A. Hood (Timaru). M. Rayne and W. KenIdall (Papanui). The course was from Yaldhurst to Sheffield and return. On I the outward run the riders ran I into a misty rain at Darfield, ■ and this made conditions cold. ! At Darfield, Tabak punctured and fell back, but hard riding brought him level with the team again. Kendall broke a pedal spindle and retired. The members covered the distance in 2hr 29min ISsec, and they finished Bmin 42sec ahead of the second team. During the teams’ event, novice riders contested an eight-mile handicap event. This 'proved a triumph for A. Paviell. Riding from the limit, he raced away from the rest to a very comfortable win. Nearing the finish, B. Wilkinson drew away for a three-length lead over B. Stockwell (Rangiora) and held on to take fastest time.

Cash Event The cash event was run over 60 miles on a block course of seven miles and a half with eight circuits. The scratch men were waiting to leave as the limit men came into view after one lap As the scratch men moved off C. Yaxley saw his opportunity and moved fast to join them. He remained with the scratch riders for the next seven laps and emerged winner. Results were.—C. Yaxley (28min), 2:35:0, 1; K. Jeffery fscr), 2:26:16, 2; B. Vaxley (scr), 2:26:18. 3: J.
