D.R. Preston Wins Title

WITHOUT G. L. Bird (Timaru) in the field, the Otago squash rackets championships lacked a certain amount of interest. Another meeting between Bird and D. R. Preston would have been welcome after Preston’s surprise win in the South Island championship. In the semi-finals, a former national champion, D. G. Green, of Dunedin, took one

game from Preston but could not maintain sufficient pace to seriously trouble him. B. J. Rippen, of Timaru, also dropped a game in the semi-finals against the promising J. Henderson. The final produced some excellent squash with Preston again proving too fit and tenacious for Rippen. Preston won in four sets.
