Taranaki Off To Hawaii

(N.Z. Prete Auoeiationi AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. Several hundred peopn watched the Roy J New Zealand Navy frigate Taranaki eave Auckland this morning bound for Pearl Harbour and the Far East. The Taranaki will spend two months working up with the American fleet in Hawaii before relieving the cruiser Royalist in the Commonwealth strategic reserve based at Singapore. Under Commander K. M. Sauli, the Taranaki's 260 men will spend eight months on Far Eastern duty.

Mr G. Dunnachie, chief fire protection officer of the Ministry of Works, will attend a fire conference in Melbourne from August 24 to 26.—(P.A.i
