Liquor In Bowling Clubs

Sir, —The request of the New Zealand Bowling Association for licensing hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, for bowling clubs might well give the erroneous impression that such an innovation is unanimously desired by the whole of the bowling fraternity. 1 have been a devotee of the grand old game for many years, and in common with numerous friends (moderate drinkers, in some cases) 1 fail to see how drinking facilities of this nature will benefit the sport in any way. In fact, it may well be that some local clubs are still against having liquor on their premises. Bowls should be. and generally is, a friendly game, but to my mind if a player is unsociable on the green no amount of drinking (even if he stays until 7 p.m.) will do more than partially camouflage his deficiency.— Yours, etc., EVEN KEEL.
