QUIN WELL

Small Rise In Weight

(N.Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) FALUN (Sweden), August 14

The only survivor of the Olsen quintuplets, born to a Swedish schoolteacher’s wife 16 days ago, was today pronounced over the critical stage.

The quintuplets were born after their mother underwent hormone treatment to make her fertile. Four of the children died within hours.

The survivor, a girl, is still in an incubator, but Dr. Perolof Schwartz, who delivered the quintuplets, said today: “The baby weighed 21b 13oz at birth, and although there were fears for her life when her weight dropped to 21b 4oz after 10 days, she has greatly improved since and her weight has now increased to 21b 7oz. "She is over the critical stage and I now think she has every chance of pulling through.” The child’s mother, Mrs Karin Olsen, aged 33, left hospital a week ago.
