COUPLES IN KAMPONGS

Finance Main Obstacle (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. There was no limit to the number of couples Malaysia could use if the Volunteer Service Abroad could find them and finance them. Sir Edmund Hillary said in Auckland today. “I doubt whether we could get 50 couples in the next two years,” he said, “but I should say we could get another 12 in the next year.” The request for married couples arises from the success of Mr and Mrs R. Niven, who worked at Kampong New Zealand.

The couples should be able to work as a team. The wife should have teaching or nursing experience and the husband farming or building experience. Their main task is to encourage the settlers to make full use of their resources.
