ATTACK ON WOMAN
Intruder In Flat (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 13. A 23-year-old woman, one of five sharing two flats in a single-storeyed house in Parnell, was attacked by a man last night and dragged to the back door before her screams woke three of her flat mates. The intruder kicked the woman, then fled. The woman, an honours student at Auckland University, saw a figure standing in the doorway but thought it was one of her friends. The man leapt into the room, put in his hand over her mouth and said: “If you scream I’ll kill you.’’ Later, the occupants found that a handbag containing keys to one flat was missing. Detective-Sergeant P. M. Faulkner said it was the second case of housebreaking and assault in three weeks. If people locked doors at night 85 per cent of housebreaking would stop, he said.
