KORAL AND GAME CALL PICKED FOR RICCARTON TODAY

Southland Trainers Expect Success

Koral and Game Call will be strong favourites for major jumping races on the final day of the Grand National meeting at Riccarton today. Koral is in the Lincoln Steeplechase with the top-weight of 10-4. Game Call is the second top-weight with 9-7 in weak company in the Sydenham Hurdles.

The Southland trainers of these two horses must have high hopes of successes in other races on today’s programme. W. J. Hillis, who prepares Koral and will ride him, will saddle a form runner in Macdonald in the Styx Hurdles.

Game Call’s Gore trainer, R.I J. Cochrane, has Court Belle | and Gladaub to run for his stable in the Islington Handicap. the first leg of the j T.A.B. double. After thirds in the Brabazon Handicap and the Winter Cup, Court Belle might be the stronger stable representative But Gladaub has earned some consideration on the strength of his second behind Golden Blossom in the Heathcote Handicap last Tuesday. Even Chance will he a j strong light-weight contender’ for Islington Handicap honours. He has 7-9 and is 201 b below Dhuran, 131 b below Court Belle, 51b below Capless and 41b below Calvados. These horses appear to form the, stronger section of the field Careen goes after a difficult double for the meeting in the August Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. She is the top weight with 9-6, but Jhe continued fine weather, which will make for good footing, should brighten the Winter Cup winner’s chance of •coming through the meeting unbeaten. Fieldmaster, an impressive Vinner of the Paparua Handicap last Saturday, and a good fifth on the second day of the 'meeting, may be the most formidable of Careen’s rivals. - Fields with riders and form -comments follow.
