PETITION On Armed Intervention In Vietnam TO THE HONOURABLE THE SPEAKER AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF NEW ZEALAND IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED THE PETITION OF Residents of New Zealand HUMBLY SHOWETH: 1. That your petitioners welcome the House's support for a search for a negotiated settlement in Vietnam; and 2. That they believe New Zealand as a small but advanced country which is well fitted to act as a bridge and mediator between the wealthy societies of the West and the underdeveloped world, can make its greatest contribution and win its greatest honour as a mediator; and 3. That the use of New Zealand troops is inconsistent with this aim. Your petitioner therefore humbly prays that your Honourable House will: Resolve that New Zealand cease from military participation in the Vietnam conflict and instead enlarge our humanitarian aid programme in South East Asia.
