E. Lucy),’ said Mr L. R. Hampton. “He has been a pillar in the I board’s engineering staff." [the chief soil conservator (Mr A. Rowell). The secretary (Mr F. G. Howe) referred to Mr Mawson’s fairness, and his ethics. The Mavor of Waimate (Mr A. J. Mcßae) said Mr Mawson was held in high esteem in Temuka. Geraldine, and Waimate. Mr G. A. Rountree said Mr Mawson’s report on the Ashburton river control scheme could well become a textbook on river engineering, and was a tribute to his work as a 1 ■ • drological engineer of the highest standing. Mr Mawson will be succeeded bv Mr T. L. Faneourt, deputy chief engineer to the Manawatu Catchment Board.
