Matron Gaoled For Theft

f.V.Z Press Association* AUCKLAND, Aug. 10. Irene Mabel Webb, aged 34, a nursing m tron, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by Mr Justice Woodhouse. today, on charges of the theft, forgery and utter ing of a cheque for £329. Webb had pleaded not guilty. Her counsel, Mr J. S Henry, said the offence had been committed at a time of strain and stress. Full restitution had been made, and Webb had already spent two weeks in custody. His Honour said that the offence was “a deliberate theft of a large sura for- | warded to an elderly and aili ing patient” in Webb's care.
