Over 7 Inches At Pupu (N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, August 10. Heavy rain in parts of the Nelson - district last night caused the Takaka river to overflow its banks, blocked some roads and resulted in flooding to property in the city. At Pupu, near Takaka, 7.58 in of rain was recorded in the 19 hours between 4 pjn. and 11 a.m. today. At Nelson airport more than an inch was recorded till 9 a.m. and between 6 a.m. and noon 1.45 in was recorded. In the Golden Bay area, the main highway between Upper Takaka and Collingwood was blocked in three places. In the Rai Valley and Whangamoa areas, between Nelson and Blenheim, the main road was flooded, but the road was not blocked. The Takaka river overflowed its banks in two places. Silt and debris blocked the water intakes at the Roding river dam from which Nelson, Stoke and Richmond draw part of their water supplies.
