Injured ’Bok May Go Home

(Special Correspondent N.Z P A.)

WHANGAREI. August 10.

It is thought probable that T. P. Bedford, the Springbok No. 8, whose broken right hand has failed to heal, will return home rather than accompany the team on the rest of its New Zealand tour.

Bedford broke the scaphoid bone in his hand in the second game of the tour in Wellington and wore a plaster cast until just before the first test. When the cast was removed it was thought that the bone had knitted, but a further Xray at Whangarei yesterday.

(showed there was still a clear fracture. Bedford flew to Wellington today for further examinations. If the Whangarei diagnosis

ts confirmed, Bedford will be unable to play again on the tour. As the manager of the Springbok team, Mr J. F. Louw, says that no replacement will be called, Bedford I could remain with the touring i party as one of the 30 mem bers allowed by the tour agreement. However, Bedford, a Rhodes scholar, is due to take up his scholarship in England at Oxford University in late Sep- ! tern her and it is thought probjable he would rather spend I the extra time at home in j South Africa, if he is unable to f play again in New Zealand.
