Extension of West Melton Army Range

Army plans to extend the width of the rifle range at West Melton were outlined to the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday by the chief engineer (Mr E. B. Dalmer). He said that the original proposals were to have the range extending across the Waimakariri river. These had been modified to extend less across the river, but to take up a greater length on the south bank.

The board agreed to the extensions, on condition that the Army make, fire breaks and put up warning notices.
