‘Question Being Studied’ i (N.Z. Press Association) , WELLINGTON, August 3. : The Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) was studying the I question of New Zealand I troops in Vietnam paying income tax, the Prime Minister I (Mr Holyoake) said today. He was commenting on a report from Vietnam that New Zealand gunners serving there believed paying income tax was an injustice to them. The report said the battery realised New Zealand’s forces in Malaysia were paying income tax. but as one gunner put it: “This is a dirtier war and there is more danger.” The gunner pointed out that American servicemen in South Vietnam were to get an increase in combat pay. and was quoted as saying: “The least the Government can do is to cut our income tax.”
