Gift To Thailand
Sir.—The Government finds it difficult to find money to build prison accommodation, replace dangerous bridges on our highways or carry out essential services in the inter-
est of the New Zealand people. Can someone explain to me the benefit of borrowing money overseas so that the Government can give £300,000 to Thailand to build roads? I understand that a minority in that country control vast sums of wealth, sufficient to build many miles of roads. Is our £300,000 to be expended for their benefit so that these people will be able to get about more freely and so exploit the poor peasants to the maximum? — Yours, etc., PERCY MCMILLAN. Saltwater Creek, August 2, 1965.
