Heart Attack At Sea
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 2. The master of an ore carrier, the Fernleaf, Captain Olaf Vatsass, who had a heart attack, was transferred from the Mariposa to a waiting
ambulance on Captain Cook wharf, Auckland, today. The Mariposa made a 280mile detour to pick up Captain Vatsass when the Fernleaf was north of Tahiti. A life-boat from the Mariposa, carrying the ship's surgeon, Dr. Gervase Flick, his nurse, Mrs Blanche Woods, and the Mariposa's chief officer, Mr R. Armitstead, transferred Captain Vatsass from the Fernleaf.
Dr. Flick said today that Captain Vatsass's condition was still serious, but he had made some progress since he was picked up. Captain Vatsass was taken to the Mater Hospital.
Even if American imperialism widens the war in Vietnam, and even if such an extension of the war involves China, still there will be no world war because American imperialism cannot pass through China; if there is a war in China it will not be a world war.— Chou En-lai
