Quintuplets Named
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 2. After considering dozens of suggestions, Mr and Mrs Samuel Lawson, of Seabrook avenue, New Lynn, named their five babies today. The quintuplets were soundly asleep in their own room while Mr and Mrs Lawson went over the final list in a room nearby at the National Women’s Hospital. The boy, who is the first born of the quintuplets, will be called Samuel Christian Clayton. The four girls, in order of birth, will be christened Lisa Gay, Deborah Ann, Shirlene Jan, and Selina Joy. Two of the girls have the same initials. Mr Lawson said that people had made “hundreds of suggestions” for the names, but that he and his wife had made
their own decisions over the names.
Lisa, the first Christian name of the eldest girl, was near the top of a list of names sent to Mrs Lawson by an Australian radio station which had taken a poll of its listeners and then sent the results to her. But Mrs Lawson had already determined on the girl’s name. The babies and their mother, Mrs Shirley Ann Lawson, were reported to be fit and well tonight. It might be some weeks or possibly months before the departments concerned reported to the Government on assistance for the Lawson family’s quintuplets, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) tonight.
He said that assistance for the quintuplets was not discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting.
