CUP WINNER HORNBY
August 14 Clubs League Off
No Rugby League club matches will be played on August 14. A round of championship matches was originally set down for this date but when it was decided to hold the Auckland-Canterbury match on August 15 the championship round was changed to a Tavendale Cup round.
The Canterbury board of con troi last evening decided to declare Hornby the winner of the cup and not play the final round. The match between Christchurch and Sydenham not played on Saturday has been abandoned because it has no bearing on the Tavendale Cup round.
The Town-Country match which was postponed on Sunday will now be played on August 14. The Canterbury representa tives who will meet Auckland the following day will not be included in the teams.
The Canterbury MaorisCanterbury senior reserve match which was to have been played on July 25 will be held at Murphy Park, Kaiapoi, on Sunday.
The secretary (Mr D. G. Gaynor) reported that a film of the British Rugby League Challenge Cup final, between Wigan and Hunslet, will now* be shown over CHtV3 on September 12. It was originally to be shown on August 15, the same day as the Auckland match.
