(\ew Zealand Press Association) TE AWAMUTU. Clarendon had his first win over a middle distance in the aumarunui Gold Cup on Saturday when he finished fast to vvm going away from Weatherly and the fast-finishing Queen’s i oet. A £llB 12s double was completed by King of Luck in the otewards’ Handicap.
Clarendon was ninth coming to the turn, and made his run wqde out to reach the lead half a furlong from the P® s t- Weatherly was one of the leaders throughout and hot favourite, Tardini, which was second into line, weakened and lost third place to Queen’s Poet in the last few strides. King of Luck, handily placed throughout, wore down the pacemaker, Bottletop, to beat him by a nose in the Stewards’ Handicap. Forebrace, second last early, made up ground for third, three lengths away and Foxskin, which had every chance, was a moderate fourth.
