NEW POSTS ADVERTISED
Training Of Teachers Eight of the new positions of “principal lecturer” have been advertised today by the Christchurch Teachers’ College. More will be offered In succeeding years. Principal lecturers, who may or may not be heads of departments, will be the senior staff members after the principal, associate principal and their deputies. Creation of the new posts has ben welcomed by the teachers’ colleges in New Zealand as another move to up-grade the status of staff. The new positions carry a salary of £2255 to £2345. The Christchurch college soon will appoint four in the primary division, three in the post-primary division and one in charge of university Studentships. It has been emphasised that the new posts will not automatically be filled by senior lecturers already on the staff. They are being advertised in all educational journals and the best applicants (from within the college, from the teaching profession, or outside) will be selected. Apart from attracting highgrade staff, it is expected that the principal lecturers will be valuable in giving stronger sectional leadership when three-year training of teachers begins. By that time in Christchurch it is intended to have eight principal lecturers in the primary division of the Christchurch college and proportionate numbers in other divisions.
