Comprehensive development of the lower Mekong river basin in the next 10 years would require the expenditure of 1950 million dollars, the United Nations reported yesterday. The estimate was made in connexion with an announcement that U Thant, the Secre-tary-General, U Nyun, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East, and Mr C. V. Narasimhan of the United Nations Secretariat, had conferred this afternoon with representatives of 20 Governments interested in the Mekong project. These were identified as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Formosa, Denmark, Finland. France, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands. New Zealand, 'Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
