TRADE WITH LOS ANGELES

Mission Will Visit City

A trade mission from Los Angeles would be visiting Christchurch on October 7 and 8 with the aim of stimulating trade between the two cities, said the secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce (Mr P. L. Bush) yesterday. The mission, he said, was sponsored by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, which was one of the largest chambers in the world.

The Canterbury chamber would hold a special reception for the visitors on October

Mr Bush said that the mission’s manager would be Mr J. A. Sowers, of the world trade department of the Los Angeles chamber. It was understood that the mission would arrive in Auckland and later come down to Christchurch. The party would stay in the city overnight and fly to Meloburne the following day. In Christchurch members of the mission would hold discussions with a wide crosssection of the city’s business community. An advance brochure on Los Angeles import and export trade with the rest of the world has been sent to the chamber.

Fire In Factory.— A small fire in the silverware manufacturing premises of W. T. Murray, Ltd., 153 Madras street, yesterday caused no damage. Headquarters station firemen answered the alarm at 5.32 p.m.
